About me
– My Philosophy –
A journey of evolution – One can evolve as a person.
I have a passion to live a full life by learning different cultures, adopting values and qualities that I believe can shape my personalities. I always open my arms to “taste” other people’s life wherever I move to a new environment, taking local transports, meeting local people, and eating local foods. Every culture has its unique, positive traits, which I can selectively adopt as a part of me or be influenced without me even aware. I write my own gene and evolve by choice.
Sometimes this process can be extremely painful.
The price is high, the reward is great.
I was born and raised in a harbour city in mainland China as a bilingual child who speaks Min Nan and Mandarin. There is an interesting fact. This city has a past of being an international hub (the starting point of the Maritime Silk Road) where different ethnic groups lived together in harmony, and perhaps it is one of the most religion-diverse cities in the world, which is uncommonly known for some reasons. Well it does not immediately make me culturally tolerant nor mean I fit in the mainstream.
Nevertheless, my awareness of cultural diversity only began after I step out of, or escape from, my homeland.
In the meanwhile, I learnt English and Cantonese as my third and fourth language.
Traveling & Living
- Travelling is a must for me – mostly solo but ended up never alone. The most important parts of travelling are people and nature. It’s been a question to me about the definition of traveling and living. What if we always treat the place we live as a travel destination, and the places we travel as our home? Everything is going to be different. Travel like a local, live like a traveller.
– My Profession –
By profession I am a banker with an engineering background.
I work as a Manager in Data & AI Risk in Scotiabank in Global Risk Management. In this role, I have more touch on international business by developing and implementing Data Risk Program.
Previously I worked as a Business and Operational Risk Specialist in Morgan Stanley with Asian market coverage in private wealth and govern outsourced team in the Philippines and India. My job duties include but not limited to Risk Framework Implementation, Stakeholder Management and Reporting, Project Management in Risk Platform Construction.
I also worked in DBS Bank as an Operations Specialist in a regional team. I implemented Mark to Market monitoring of all tradable assets in private wealth sector for both Hong Kong and Singapore market. I also have experience on operational control on Business Continuity Plan (BCP), RCSA and regulatory reporting.
Before starting my career, I held a research project in university sponsored by the government focusing on super-hydrophobic nanofibers, together with other side projects. The charm of research is that it allows your curiosity to dive deep and trains your critical thinking and learning ability. Although I decided not to continue the research journey, the mindset behind has been a foundation of my work life – everything can be learnt. The most important skills tend to be transferrable and borderless.
Please get in contact with me via email or message me in LinkedIn if you would like to discuss potential cooperation.
You probably can see that I have a broad interest and general curiosity. A huge reason is that I see things by patterns not topics, patterns are simple and universal. There is beauty in simplicity.
No experience is wasted. But if I were able to choose again, maybe I would have been an architect or a psychologist.
– Hobbies –
I try new things whenever interesting ideas occur to me, including building this website 😀 .
Language – I am improving my advanced English writing (maybe this website can help 😀 ); if I am free, I would practice Spanish (beginner level), though in a slow pace; if I relocate to a new country, I will be likely to learn the local language.
Nature – Perhaps one can only find oneself when getting lost. It always thrill me when I conquered my fear of nature. Living in Hong Kong gives me thousands of perspectives to view the city from different angles. Even though I enjoy getting lost in jungle, I am more of a beach person.
